Posted by Denise Hershey on Jan 6th 2024

Put a reminder in your calendar for Feb 3, 2024 from 1pm to 3pm. I will be running the second Make and Take Necklace and Earring class. Five lucky participants have already tried this last November.4th. See my previous blog for pictures from that day: https://gaiassongjewelry.com/blog/happy-necklace-makers/

The price is the same as last time: $40 ($25 for class and $15 for materials). Space is limited to 6 persons. If we have enough interest, I can stay for another 2 hours for a second group of 6.

Contact me at Denise@GaiasSongJewelry.com to sign up or ask questions.

I thought it would be interesting for you to know how this works.

I have 32 kits. This includes 15 new kits since last time!

Each kit has the exact number of beads to make a necklace and a pair of earrings. It comes with a one-page instruction sheet showing you the pattern of the beads and a picture of the beads laid out in the pattern. I have added the approximate length of the finished necklace and the complexity of the pattern to help you decide on which one you want to make.

I will also have a box of random extra beads just in case you need more than the kit has.

I also have over 20 kits containing the metallic parts. You get to decide if the necklace is silver plate, copper, antique copper, brass, or gold plate.

Step 1: Choose a necklace kit.

Pay attention to the color of the beads and if it has a focal bead. Pay attention to the approximate length. One is a choker and a few are longer. Most are about 18 inches in length. If you want longer, I will have some random extra beads you can look at to add some length or a new color.

Step 2: Choose your metallic parts

What color of metal goes with the necklace – or which is your preference? I will have these metals available: silver plate, copper, antique copper, brass, or gold plate. If you make arrangements with me in advance, I can provide sterling silver for an extra amount. Be sure to contact me ahead of time to make sure I bring the right things and we know how much extra it will cost.

Pay attention to the clasp. There are several of each metal in the metal kits. However, I do have more, if you want to look at them, let me know.

Step 3: Find an open seat with the white bead design board. Carefully open your kit and pull out the instruction sheet. Carefully look over the directions and look at the pattern complexity and length to make sure you are comfortable with this kit. Feel free to choose another kit, just please re-pack the first kit before returning it.

Step 4: Assemble your necklace

Once you are comfortable with the kit’s directions, carefully open the larger bag of beads. Leave the small bag of beads (for the earrings) in their bag for now. Using the instruction and pattern sheet begin to separate the different beads and start to lay them out like the picture. Leave extra room between beads at first, and when you are satisfied with your pattern, double and triple check that it looks like the pattern in the picture and descriptions. When you are done put a couple of loose knots on one end of your wire and begin stringing your beads as you laid them out. When they are strung, make another set of loose knots on the other end of the wire and go to the mirror and hold up the beads around your neck, leaving about an inch between both ends at the back of your neck. See how long the necklace is and make sure you are Ok with the length and pattern. Double and triple check that your pattern is correct and call Denise over to review and add the clasp elements.

Step 5 Make Your Earrings

Open the earring bag and lay out the earring pattern and assemble earrings per the directions. Call Denise to show you how to make your earring wire and attach it to the beads. (Clip on, lever back, or post styles are available, just ask!)

Here are the available kits for this next time. The colors of the beads are not the best, but you can get the idea from the name and the picture. When you see them in person, you will make your decision.
